Hi  !!   Smiley

Just bought a Murena 1.6 - a very well looked after and original '81 model - however bought knowing it had an intermittent running problem and it was not quite right , so now it's time to investigate !  Even though I have seen it running (before handing over the money) it was not very smooth. As it had been dry-stored for up to a year, I need to eliminate possibilties - I have checked the electrical side and it all seems to have been renewed recently (new coil, plugs, dist cap etc.) so have now turned to the fuel side - I may drain the tank, flush, renew fuel lines and put in fresh fuel - what is the best way of doing this, do I need to remove the tank or is there a drain plug? Also I will replace the fuel filter, clean out the carb and replace the jets - does anyone know what size the original jets should be (i.e the main jets, emulsion tubes etc). Furthermore, does anyone know of any particular running problems the 1.6 Murena suffers from, that I may concentrate my efforts on.

Can't wait to use the car .......

Regards,

"not running quite right" is not the most elaborate description, but I'd say your approach sound like a good route.

I don't think there is any way to drain the fueltank but using a pump, or takjing the tank out. However taking the tank out will have you check/replace the straps that keeps it in place :-)

Good luck, and keep us posted on the progress

It could be more serious problems as well. You have to approach the problem systematically, ruling out the simple issues first: Ignition, fuel supply, carburettor adjustments etc... Fortunately it's a simple engine management system (not electronic).

 Cool
Hi Lennart and Dinsen,

Thanks for the guidance guys. I shall start with emptying the tank first as I have been advised (by Roy in the Matra Enthusiast Club UK) that the fuel is probably stale AND could be the wrong seasonal type (e.g. summer fuel is no good for the icy winter temperatures here at the moment). I shall eliminate the cheaper obvious things first and may post another question if this running problem persists after all the work. At least the engine is very simple and straightforward ....

Any ideas on the carburettor jet sizes for the Murena 1.6 ? Or if there is a carb servicing kit available ?

Good luck with it, you are in safe hands with Roy.
Let us know what you find out.
Sorry, I know nothing about a service kit, try one of the Matra-parts-specialists (think they are listed under 'links' on this site).
