Hi,
The ignition barrel  return spring has broken so that on starting the car the key remains in the starter motor position. It must be turned back manually to prevent the starter motor burning out.

Renault say their only solution is to sell me a new ignition barrel/lock which comes in a set with new matching locks for all doors. Seems an overkill to me and very expensive.

Does anyone know whether there is a repair for the broken spring and how to do it? any help would be much appreciated.

It's one integrated unit, you can't take it apart, so I'm afraid you need to bite the apple and take the expense. Or live with the problem Wink

ok, thank you.

I've found a barrel and key from a breakers for £30, much cheaper and less hassle than changing all the locks.
