Hi
Last Friday a little red beauty arrived at my home, after a 1700 km. trip from the south of France. Its a 1972 M 530 LX, with 88.600 km. on the road. Now I just need get it thrue the danish tax-system, get some plates on, and get it on the road. I am looking forward to see what this funny little car has to offer to an old conservative Bagheera-driver Grin

Excellent, Lars. Congratulations! I certainly remember your smile after you tried the 530 yourself in September at the Matra meeting Smiley so I guess this was anticipated... Wink

Well done on the 1700 km trip! Where in France did you find her? What's the story of it? It looks like it's in excellent condition.

Good luck with the taxation!

Thank you to both of you.
First of all. the 1700 km. was in the back of a transport-vehicle. I wouldnt dare to take it on such a long trip so soon. I found the car on ebay.fr, It was located ca. 400 km south of Paris in a small village called Caunay. Mechanically it is in a very good condition. I have not found any signs of rust, It runs, and everything seems to work ( the brakes needs some attention, It have not been driven for about 11/2 year). The Interior is also very nice and original. But.... pictures are forgiving... It was resprayed a couple of years ago, and the paintjob is not the best I have seen. The cromebumbers would also benefit from a recrome. But thats just small cosmetics. Generally it is great, and I cant wait to take her out Cheesy

Yes Anders... After the trip in Andrea´s last year, I was sold, so I have been looking out for one ever since. But the Prices on perfect exambles are pretty high, so I was waiting for a fair running examble, and I think I have found it in this one.

And Hans.... I know you are jaloux. You just cant wait to get a testdrive Grin

Actually I would prefer the XS model because of its weird headlight arrangement.

I agree with you about the headlights. The pop-up lights on the LX, makes it look sad. The four bolt-on Lights on the SX, gives it a kind of Rally-look, I like that. The LX has the Targa-roof, and that is one thing that I find very attractive.

I'm really looking forward to seeing your car, Lars.
Good you had it in a trailer.

About the sad look: I think it must be blushing-  in red.

The 530 must have been quite avantgarde in its time - very french. I remember seeing Lennarts pictures of it first time, and I thought "does this car go forward or backwards?". Of course it goes backwards!

Congratulations!  I'm brand new here but your 530 reminds me of a LX I tried to restore quite some years ago, in bright red too.  Rust wasn't an issue and the engine was strong, but I messed things up when I had a local "expert" repair the body panels.  He thought he was doing a good thing by adding some more strength to them, but the result was that they wouldn't flex back into the proper shape and panel fit thereafter was really bad!  I hope someone eventually sorted it out.
Personally I love the LX with it's pop-up lights and targa roof.

Cristmas holiday coming up!!!. I think it´s time to get some Matra-work done (squezed in between all the family gatherings)..  Grin I have recently recieved this set of stainless steel-exhaust from Matra-Magic, and now I have just had them polised, so they are ready to replace the old rusty ones....This means that the 530 is now ready for the Danish MOT. Looking forward to get her on the road, but I realy need some better wheater!!...course this one has to go with the top off!!..... Wink Cool

Merry Cristmas

Hi Lars,
Just wondered what's the progress.  Is the 530 on the road now?  How are you finding it compared to the Bagheera?  It would be interesting to hear a comparison.  Do you have any more photographs you can share with us?

Hi Marku
I still need some documents from the danish tax-office, before I can get the 530 street-legal, but besides that, it is ready to come out and play!. The new exhausts have just been installed..WHAT A SOUND!!  Shocked . The new silencers are "right thrue"....and they do make some noise. I have put on some copies of the original  ´69 Rally Monte Carlo stickers, to se how it looks......I think I like it, so maybe I will put them on for real. I have recently purchased a set of original Dunlop D1 alloys. They are out to be resprayed at the moment. So I am really looking forward to get it on the road.  Smiley

Wow Lars, it certainly looks to be in fabulous condition - congratulations.  I'm sure the alloys will look great too.  Perhaps you should wait to get those on the car before going firm on the stickers.  I'm jealous!  But I don't think a Matra would last long on the roads of Nepal!

Have you got your red beauty on the road? I´m very interesting in hearing what the danish MOT asked of you. I´m searching for a Matra 530  Wink
