Hi
Daily Teleegraph as asked its readers to chose the 100 most butiful cars ever made.
As Daily Telegraph is a British news paper almost any British sports car is on the list but also some boring cars like Ford Granada Mk 1 and Fiat 130 Coupé
But no Matra is on the list: Shame on Daily Teleegraph´s readers!

Hans

Only the Talbot-Lago T150C SS is on the list at place 24.
But indeed, we are the underdog.
If everyone forget about Matra, we have exclusive cars.

Sorry for the bad spelling, I was rather exhausted last night due to heat, lots of problems with equipment breaking down, and the town I live in being without electric power as the local power station has broken down completely.
However here are some eees and aaas which you can put into my text as needed and as you like.

I did notice the Talbot-Lago T150C SS on the list, and it is a real beautiful vehicle, but I do not think that there is any link what so ever between the 193x Talbot Lago and the Talbot and Matras of the eighties.

regards hans

I wouldn't say that the Fiat 130 coupe was boring.  Pininfarina design of the era so a lot of staight lines but completely different from the saloon.  Probably better looking than a lot of the so called "classic" British "sportscars" of the time.  Lets face it the MGB was rubbish to begin with and by the time they added rubber bumpers it was ugly as well.

The average English journalist wouldn't remember Talbot (a made up company name anyway) never mind Matra!

What also doent help is that it was never officially brought in to the UK (Murena) and was left hand drive (except a few dodgy conversions)

First of all, I have corrected the little spelling-goof.

I find the Fiat-130 worthy of a place on the list, but I cannot see what:

 * Granada Mk1
 * Rover SD1
 * Original Mini
 * Landrover Defender

should do in a list of *beautiful* cars.

Sweet, purposeful or trend-setting (or important) maybe, but none of those are IMO particularly pretty.

But to be honest, they have 90 good ones in their list - covering a vast time-spam. I mean, I'm not old enough to really find the Hispano-Suiza H6 *pretty*, but I guess it was in its time.

Hi
Well Lennart I do not agree with you on the Rover SD1. I think that it was a very beautiful car. Design vise it was years ahead of its competitors. Some of the design elements of the SD1 remind me of the Bagheera (now I will be in trouble with Bagheera-Lars).
I have had one myself (that might influence my judgment) Its color was named Moonraker Blue metallic.
It was a fantastic car to drive, actually I still miss it. But the building quality was not too good and the rust really liked to attach it.

Peug 406 Coupé should be higher on the list (I'm sure you'll agree, Lennart Wink ) - and where's the Espace JE?  Huh

I'm pleased to see the Jensen Intercepter / FF in at number 28 but amazed to see the Nissan 300ZX in the top one hundred but the only decent looking jap car not being there - the Datsun 240Z.

As people have said - no one knows what a Matra is  Sad

Would be interesting to have a vote of the most beatiful classics at the NEC car show / Essen - if there was a D'Jet there I think it would do well. But then again I love the shape of the 530  Roll Eyes
