I de-rusted the calipers as much as possible then I boiled it with soda.
I made it wet and treated it with fosfor acid a few times.
Then some light sanding and sprayed the calipers 3x with 20 min pause.
The result is very good as seen on the pics.

I tested it in Grey and in black, and made my choice in grey metal.

The cat is guarding my old calipers.
They will be prepared for spare

Since I own a powder-coating gun and oven every part of my car has to undergo powdercoating. :) I did my callipers in chrome with mirror red.

I did a set of callipers some time ago for someone else in Black

It is possible to paint them while on the car if you degrease very very good. Hammerite paint seems to work well if you decidce to use this method.

Did you mean 'caustic soda' also known as sodium hydroxide (NaOH)

No, I mean the cristals that are used for housekeeping. it's less agressive.
The main idea was that boiling with water and soda loosen the grease.
Grease is lighter then water and it will float on the water.
That's the point

Ah, you're thinking of washing soda(known as krystall soda in Scandinavia), known also as Sodium carbonate or Na2CO3.

Must buy a bottle tomorrow and try....

Since my new Avantime has brand new 8 year old callipers I decided to paint them now they are still reletively new. Usually I would disassemble them and powdercoat them in my powdercoating-oven, but I lack the time to do it that way so instead I degrease them thoroughly and use Hammerite to paint them.

This is how a calliper looks like after 8 years and 1000 km's.

After cleaning, degreasing and painting they look like this.

I decided to clean the rim and apply a sealant to protect it in the future. Although these rims will be replaced next year for other ones.

Looks good again now.
