Arm Rests

Hi Folks

In my trusty espace the rear seats and the middle row have holes in either side of them, which looks to me as if you can add arm rests to them, is this correct and if so where will i be able to purchase some. (with out paying dealer prices).

Yes it's correct - and new/used rests are most cheaply purchased at eBay - particularly the German section, which is very active with Espace-parts.

Ive been onto the German Ebay site very impressed, slight problem  what is the German word for armrest  I spent most of last night looking but there are over 7000+ items, and tiredness got the better of me in the end. i promise i will learn German as a language.

- but I don't know if they use that word for the "captains chair" armrests, which is what I assume you are looking for ?  - also, I only know about the front seats having these, - never heard about original armrests for the rear seats.

But if you have the right skills, then I guess any armrest could me modified to fit, provided you can cut/bend/weld some kind of support, which could be fixed to the mentioned holes ?

It will probably make it somewhat difficult to fold the seats fully - depending on the success of your design. You can regard that as a challenge! :-)

But as for the challenge, electricians are ok with wires and tube and fault finding, as for welding ummm i think i will give it a miss, i dont want to mess up my new pride and joy.  . Back to my german lesson as promised.

There are original arm rests for the rear seats indeed, and those are the ones usually offered on eBay. There's a leather set offered under article no 8068084210.

I will probably have to see them  before understanding the geometry fully then.
How can you fold the seat with the armrest fitted ? - or more importantly, can you fold the armrest while the seats are in their places ? (well, maybe you can't - thats a simple answer :-) )

I'm not sure I understand your point... but the arm rests are not usable on the middle row if you have all three seats fitted - they do take up some space between the seats. In the 3rd row they can be used between the seats. The rests should not disturb the folding of the seats because they sit on the side of the seat.

It just so happens that i have seen an espace with these arm rests fitted....(only on six seats) .......ready for this guys.
The arm rest is inserted into seat just like a key is inserted into a door, the arm rest has full movement as like the two front seats so folding the seats has no problem ( if the middle seat is not in place as anders said) to remove the arm rest you have to pull the arm rest out a little bit then push it down past its horizontal positon and the pull it out completely the same is done in reverse to put the arm rest back in.

I am a new member to this forum, so forgive any mistakes on my part until I get in the swing of things.
I recently purchased a 2.2 dt Grande Espace, year of manufacture is 2000, and it came with arm rests fitted to the rear two seats.
I didn't like them, and have removed them, as it made it very difficult for passengers, even small children to get between the seats, and the arm rests were a different colour to the leather seats in my espace.
If you are still looking for some arm rests, they are a dark green colour if I remeber correctly, let me know.
