Weight of 1294cc / 1442cc Bagheeras ..

If my figures are correct the 1294cc Bagheera's kerb weight is 885kg but the 1442cc model increases to 1015kg.
That's a not insignificant 115kg / 253lb weight gain!

Are there some specific components that attribute to the later car's weight increase?  Is the chassis different?  Or is it just a case of a little increase here, a little increase there and it all adds up?

These are the kerb weights (poids à vide en ordre de marche) I have found:

1974-75    1294cc   930 kg   (base)
1976         1294cc   960 kg   (base)
1975-76   1442cc   995 kg   (S, Courrèges)
1977-78   1294cc   980 kg   (base)
1977-80   1442cc   1015 kg    (S, Courrège, Jubilé, X)

1976         1294cc   960 kg   (base) Some difference to the chassis but hardly justify 30 kg
1975-76   1442cc   995 kg   (S, Courrèges) 35 Kg difference. The engine which is about 1 inch Higger. And ... side windows electric motors, trim like feet rest, ... Could be justified
1977-78   1294cc   980 kg   (base) To be compared to the 960 Kg = differences to the chassis + bumpers
1977-80   1442cc   1015 kg    (S, Courrège, Jubilé, X) Here again 35 kg difference between the 1294 cc and the fully equiped 1440 cc

I'm currious about the real weight of Andy's racer  ;) I suspect that the cage will have an adverse impact

It is a happy coincidence but the army parade ground we visited yesterday for another AutoSolo had, next door, a disused mechanical weighbridge. The building had been boarded up when they ceased to use it but someone had taken down the boards and one could go inside. Another competitor (driving a Caterham/Westfield/Lotus 7) noticed our heavy roll cage and asked what the car weighed. He showed me where the weighbridge was and in a quiet moment I went over to find out.

Baggy Joe, without a spare wheel and the three GRP undertrays, but with 3/4 tank of fuel and both new seats, weighed 945kg. He has the 1442 twin carb 1977 engine.

Whether the weighbridge was within calibration is open to doubt and although it had a "Calibrated" label on the dial the date shown was too pale to read. It was probably not too far out and 945kg aligns quite well with the 1020kg I was told by our local recycling depot when I weighed Grey Baggy earlier this year when I was trying to select a trailer. The recycling depot resolution was 20kg, they said, so it could have been nearer 1030kg or 1010kg.

Hope this helps.

Weight gain in the Series 2 Bagheera...

I noticed, when working on the S1 Baggy Pink recently, that the luggage compartment was only GRP. Bagheera S2 has GRP outer skins surrounding a metal inner structure. This must add extra weight. Maybe there are other areas that are double skinned on the S2?

Hi Andy,

When you say GRP only, I presume you speak about the sides ?
Otherwise Miss Pink was not standard.

S Serie 1 have a full metal inner structure + Side window engine + Taller engine + passenger feet support.
65 Kg ?

I thought the rear vertical surface was also GRP only but I cannot now be sure.  Andy
