Jacking Points

Other than the jacking points on the sills, where is is safe, front and rear, to jack the car with a trolley jack?  Is the round tube at the front strong enough to take a jack in the centre?

There is no rear crossmember.  Is the strengthening rib, behind the silencer, and under the luggage compartment strong enough?  Should the load be spread across the 3 ribs with a wooden plank?

Hi Ron

The round tube in the front is plenty strong enough to be used to jack up the front.

As regards the rear, I think the safest way to jack it up is to do it in front of the engine. I know you will be lifting the entire car that way (at least if you are doing one side at a time), but I don't personally consider the rear end strong enough to take a jack.

That said, however, we didn't see any signs of deformations when we dismantled the 2.2 at Waldo's last month and lifted the rear in this (quite brutal) way:

1982 Talbot Matra Murena 2.2 prep 142 (under restoration)

Used to own:
2001 Renault Matra Grand Espace "The Race" V6 24v
1997 Renault Matra Espace 2.0 8V
1987 Renault Matra Espace J11 2.2
