Hi
My wife has got a new battery installed in our Espace from 1998 and the car has the original "small" radio installed. After the battery has been changed she cannot turn on the radio as it requires a code to be turned back on.
Is there anywhere on the web where I can find such a code or what else can we do in order to get the radio working again?
In the owner’s manual it is stated that we shall contact the Renault dealer inform them of the vehicles chassis number and they will be able to inform us of the code, but I will assume that this will be hopeless in Denmark where Renault newer imported that model.

Thanks in advance
Hans

PS I will most likely get the chassisnumber on in a mail later today.

These require that you take out the radio and note down a code from it, but still its better than not getting the code... However a dealer in Denmark should be online with Renault and find the code regardless of import or not.

Hi Tom
Thanks for the advice. Where is the radio code located? On the radio unit itself which is located under the front passenger seat?

I'm a bit confused now. Does Pioneer radio unit located under the front driver seat have a  security code or not? If so, how to enter it? Via steering wheel remote?

And another question? Pioneer radio unit in Espace III and the one in Avantime are the same and interchangable?

My Pioneer unit (top of the range audio as its an Espace Initiale) has no code.

The Avantime and Espace are interchangeable on the Pioneer 4x40w unit as far as i can see, but the Avantime is also supplied with VDO (probably for vehicles with navigation systems).

I have an 3.0 v6 Avantime with VDO navigation but the radio unit seems to be from Pioneer, based on the remote control for it. The problem I am having is that the remote does not work. The remote itself seems to be working and I have already tried it with new IR reciver unit but still no sucess.
Now I wonder what else can I try, to get the remote for the radio to work.

Have you tested that the remote actually sends out IR signal ?
By looking at the remote (front) via a cell phone camera whilst pressing a button you should see the IR light with your eyes.

The only test of the remote that I have tried is to trigger a IR operated light switch. Light came on so I guess remote works. Will test it again.

Up date:
When I was in Denmark during the x-mas hilidays I managed to get the radio in our Espace working again. The radio code which is only four digits was writen at the back of the sun visor. At first the procedure as described in the instruction manual did not work, but it turned out that is was not sufficient to have the ignition on. The engine need to be running, in order to get acces to the radio code set-up.
