Hi there, I have some wear in the UJ at the bottom of the steering column, can some one tell me the size/number of splines so I can source a part from the link posted elsewhere on this site ? Local main dealer wants £200 + VAT for a complete column !  Shocked Shocked

I assume you are looking for the lower half of this.
As you can see you dont need to remove the full coloum.
I count 16 splines. Take a punt & get this complete lower part second hand!
Not sure if they vary from model to model.

Hi, does anyone know if this UJ is fitted to other cars in the Renault range, a part number would be useful as I have found an Ebayer whose has lots of new and secondhand ones for sale but not for the Espace. Its annoying that despite being splined and therefore a seperate component, Renault want to sell me the whole column. Thanks, Bill.

Hi william123,

I to had trouble with the UJ at the dase of my steering column, and found out the hard way that there is no need to disturb the steering column to remove the UJ.
The stainless steel cap at the top of the splined section of the UJ needs to be released, using a screwdriver, and with the pinch bolt removed at the Steering Rack the UJ will slide down and out.
If you are in desparate need I have one in my garage somewhere, just let me know and I will find it.
I'm sure we can come to some arangement over price and delivery, as I no longer have the Espace it fitted.
Regards

Hi Bill,

Before we haggle, let me see if I can find the thing first.

It must be nearly 5 years ago that I did the job and I haven't seen it since.

I will be in touch at the weekend when I can get to my garage.

Regards

Hi Bill,

I have found the UJ and it still seems to be OK.

I think it is worth £50 + postage.

If you want it, I will send it to you, and when you have had a look at it you can either send me a cheque or return the UJ to me.

If this is OK with you just let me have you contact details.

Regards
