I need new evaporators for the A/C in our Espace III. I can easily find second hand on Ebay but I will prefer to install new evaporators considering the work involved installing them and the cost of filling the system with freon. Does anyone know where to buy new evaporators at a reasonable price?

Thanks in advance

Try Serck Services, Nationwide radiator specialists, you should find a local branch near you by visiting the internet.

Have a look in their webshop and send them an email if its not listed.

Serck Services is a British company, telephone number 01675 466396 web address

I think you just happened to pick up the American side and not the UK. Try the numbers and address I have supplied and you should find what you require.

Hella list an Evaporator condenser on their online catalogue

http://www.hella.com/toc/en/9AEF7457F66A0E2081A4714405B88E83.srv;jsessionid=9AEF7457F66A0E2081A4714405B88E83?view=VIndexFramesetJsp

So you should be able to purchase from a Hella dealer

I have had the upper half of the dashboard (including the instrument panel) dismantled  and out of the vehicle which allowed me to have a look at the evaporator. It seemed that the evaporator is in very good condition and not leaking. I have discussed the issue with independent Espace specialist, Skinnerup Auto, and our conclusion is that the condenser is most likely OK, but the leak is from a joint on the piping in front of the evaporator, and most likely I will only have to change a gasket. However the dash board needs to be dismantled completely in order to get access therefore the workshops estimate is that the labour cost will be minimum 15.000 DKK ( 2.000 Euro) and material cost 10-20 DKK (2 Euro).

I will do the job myself when I have several days available, and I need to find a description of how the get the complete dashboard out of the car without braking too many items.

The condenser for the Espace (placed in front of the engines radiator) is available at reasonable prices from many suppliers, the evaporator (placed inside the heating/ cooling system in the  dashboard) is only available from Renault at a cost of approximately 400 Euro.

If it were me I would go to a breakers yard & strip one out first, so I know what i'm in for. It is always quicker to do it a second time. I have stripped one before & have heaters & evaporator here spare for mine. The hardest part was disconnecting the dash from the body. It is on slide bolts either side. The dash will hinge up on them. I think there must be a tool to slot in to get the dash to release.
Before you do all this you should charge the system with compressed air & use a mist spray or water solution with washing up liquid. spray it around the matrix & pipes until you find the leak. Alumillium tends to go porous, little holes form that leak your refrigerant. You can get a leak finding charge of gas. It appears to have antifreeze in it, a bright green fluid that you will see where the leak is. I have also had success with leak fixing air con mix solution. Some people say it can bugger the pump but I have had no problems with it. My fridge at home has now been running 3 yrs after treatment!
You can repair alumillium with epoxy metal type glue, I did this with my old Range Rover. The bonnet had rubbed the top of the matrix & it had a small hole which I epoxyed. In attempting to remove the matrix the pipe threads striped. I put them back in with the metal epoxy. To my knowledge the car is still good today.
