Have checked the engine and it looks like a normal 140bhp, no turbo and special inlet. It lokks like a misstaken identity :-)

From what I can gather these are a list of enignes that I have resarched and known to exist (although someone will correct me on this:
2 types of F4R 2.0L 16v engines, (one looks like this: http://www.maxipratik.fr/medias/annonce/3662_1.jpg and one looks like this: http://www.247spares.co.uk/res/images/engines/ref/546345/8799.jpg - one maybe actually a F3R engine)
A G8T variant (Diesel 2.2L 12v http://d.moto.gratka.pl/auto/10024/ogl/21/4b/12995074749656_A.jpg)
A G9T variant (Diesel 2.2L 16vhttp://i77.servimg.com/u/f77/14/47/94/82/p1100214.jpg)
A Z7X variant (Petrol 3.0L 12v http://bilder2.eazyauction.de/xxalex98xx/artikelbilder/5318.jpg - never seen one however)
A L7X variant (Petrol 3.0L 24v http://i.ytimg.com/vi/A0A6zRCNBNE/maxresdefault.jpg)

In addition there was alleged to be a F9Q variant (Diesel - 1.9L 16v which looks like this http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb288/davelowe1977/enginebay/DSCF1455.jpg) although I've never seen one for sale which probably means they were quite rare.

This is what I have determined from what I've researched. It is very likely with the engine you have a later F4R 16v 2.0L petrol variant, which is actually 140hp. I believe the later espaces came with turbocharged engines. However, if it shows more power, then it might be possible that someone modded it, but you'd need to closely scrutinize the engine bay. Have you looked for an engine plate? It might be near impossible to see however.

I hope this helps, I'm sure someone as I said previously will be more than happy to correct me.

Thanks for this information.

It's a F4R 2.0L 16v 138bhp (since it has Cruise Control) So no turbo or other fun stuff... This is my third Espace with this engine. After one new injector and some attention, it works very well.
The earier two, we have changed the exhaust manifold to the casted from 1.8 16v Scenic. VTT has also been a problem, but this one works, for now.

I'll post a photo of the 1.9 dTi engine soon, have one 2001 with 280000km

Does yours have an automatic gearbox? I can only find references to vehicles with automatic gearboxes as having the abilities to use cruise control, even though renault list parts for the manual version. Well, at least on the 2.2DCi I have. (Which on all other engines, because they have an accelerator cable, they also need the vaccumme pump to control the accelerator - now that sucks! Since mine is electronic, it doesn't need it.)  I'm not sure on the later F4R petrol or F9Q engines however.

Now that WOULD be interesting, I live in the UK and one model I haven't seen is I think the JE0M model, thats the F9Q engined one. Nor have I owned any other espaces, I would love to get hold of a 2.0L petrol one to see what they are like, but it'll have to be given to me as my dad, who I live with has banned me from buying any other car, except he gave(!) me a Vauxhall Omega! Figure that one out.

It's an automatic, and the cruise control works now...

I have never considered the 2.0L since I like the digital ACC, and the 2.0 16v runs very well. My 2.2 DCI is not in working order. It needs a working engine, crankshaft bearings etc...

Within January I'll get that photo of the 1.9Dti.

Here is a picture of the 1.9dti, dusty since it's living in Spain nowadays. It's runs very well and all the 98BHP is still working.

This one was sold new in Belgium, imported to Sweden like all JE. They are all privately imported, since Volvo, that handled to Renault import at the time said "it was to expensive..."

Thats rather fascinating, I questioned as I never saw one. Still, barely 100hp!? Thinking of engine covers since it tidies up the engine bay,  I know 2.0L 16V F4R variants, you CAN put an engine cover on them, I did this in a scrap 2.0L espace (got a 1.8L engine cover and fitted on the engine for ****s and giggles). I'm wondering if you can fit one to a G9T to make it look a little more tidy.

series 4 espace has the engine cover, so no reason why not.
