Heater matrix leaking
April 20, 2016, 06:43:16 AM
Hello eveyrone,
My 2001 JE0S leaking water inside. I guess it is from the matrix. Is there somone done this job before and is there any  how-to information about removing the matrix?
thanks

Hi brianM, I have carried out this repair on my 2.2dti Espace, year 2000, and have a set of photos somewhere that show the main parts of this horrible job.
I did my matrix replacement when the engine was out of the car, as it gave easy access to the "quick" release hose couplings at the bulkhead, so trying to access the couplings with the engine in place would make it, in my opinion, nearly impossible.
the whole of the dashboard has to be lifted and pulled rearward to access the heater matrix housing, which involves the removal of dozens of Torx head screws.
If you think it will help I will try to find the photos, as I did this job about 10 years ago and can't remember where I saved the photos.
best of luck. regards. Ross

I had a leak from my J63 heater, but (after spending all weekend replacing it - more difficult in a right-hand-drive model than the book suggested) it wasn't the matrix which was leaking. All it really needed was new O rings in the pipe connections to the matrix. They could be fitted in an hour, at least on that later J63.

I don't remember all the details: this was in 2009. It may not apply to a JE, but it's well worth trying first. On the J63, the O rings were size 17 x 2.5 mm (inside diameter X cross-section), but measure the cracked and worn ones you take out!

Hi BrianM, sorry for the delay in responding to your request for my photos, but I have been up to my eyes in Renaultvating, the big end went on my 2.2Dci, so I had to swap it out.
I will look out the photos asap. regards. Ross
