Hi Spyros,

Maybe its time for a new subject.

Which Porsche gearbox was used for the U8 ?

Need to check. But ... I heard that some more recent 911 gearbox have a very good reputation.

Hi Spyros,

I don´t think it was a 911 gearbox since it sits in front of the engine.
But the U8 may have rotated at the opposite direction compared to the Porsche and then it could have worked.
My guess would have been the 914 or the transaxle 924 or 928 models.

An engine which could be used in a replica not a proper U8 but a V8 of the same cubic capacity and roughly the same size could be the Daimler 2.5 litre V8 used in the SP250 sports car and also in the Daimler version of the Jaguar MKII.

Adding a set of Webers on top of that and it would look fairly similar to the U8

It would be very interesting to see a picture / drawing of the engine and gearbox in the U8 prototype.

The 16S prototype engine is also interesting.

Another alternative that I have been thinking of would be to skip part of the luggage compartment and add a belt driven screw compressor to the standard engine.

The Rotrex compressors are small enough to fit without body modification I think: http://www.rotrex.dk/

I thought Andy was planning to use a turbo in his project.

My fascination with the compressor comes from the Daimler Super V8 (long wheelbase Jaguar XJR) I have. The low rev torque is really very good without any turbo lag at all.
This engine is of course very much bigger but the car weighs twice as much as the Bagheera so I think performance could be adequate with the standard Bagh engine and a blower.

The pipe work and cooling is a lot easier if you go for a belt driven compressor compared to a turbo.

Is Andy on this forum as well?

If you are listening Andy then maybe you could give us a quick update on your project.

I'm thinking that he wants the compressor and that he already raced compressor equiped engines. µ
I don't know if he will see this. I won't see anymore the emails of the Mostly Murena list : I unsubscribed myself

I am still on the list. Does not fill up my inbox though.

I will post and see if Andy gives an update.
