ALARM - Front wheel suspension
February 09, 2008, 08:14:14 PM
Monday I noticed strange behaviour from the steering. When I was slowly going over some speed bumps the car first pulled to the left and then right. I stopped shortly after and a quick inspection discovered a "loose" front wheel. After slowly bringing the car home I swithced to an anternative car. (no not the Lotus - it still doesnt start ;)
Next day in daylight I examined the car. The upper triangle was totally corroded - and only conntected at one joint at the chassis - whoha. Luckily I had some spares in the garage - so the car is back on the road.
My family has often blamed me for all the garbage in the garage - but they have silcenced now.

Please inspect your triangles asap.

Not only the Bermuda triangle can cause dissaster - the Murena triangle might as well.

Woohoo, that could have caused a mess if you had discovered it at higher speed!

I was under my car today and decided that it needs a good rust protection. The chassis looks excellent, but there's just too many unprotected metal parts there to just leave it like it is without protection. Stig, you know "Autohjørnet"?

Well.. somebody at the "MOT" hasn't done their work properly...!!

Just goes to show...... with cars this age, you really should take the time for a careful inspection once in a while....

Because I have only two hands, and need on to hold the part and the other to hold the tools ;) And my D40 isn't really suitable for dirty work conditions... often I do though - I've got a 'gallery' of photos of my car here if you want to browse around:

I presume that we are talking about the top wishbone/upper arm?

Is it a standard Talbot part as per Alpine/Horizon/Simca 1100 etc?

It's the upper A-arm that failed for Megatech. You are looking at the lower, which is cast iron and much fatter, whereas the upper is pressed plate.
