please give me your thoughts on this

sounds too good to be true.

You will need someone to modify the engines ecu to turn off the egr!
The egr has a job to do, it is not there for no reason. Of course as the engine gets older & carbon deposits get thicker the egr jams up & becomes a maintenance item. Changing the oil more often is a good idea as the carbon is not good for the general wear & tare. An egr filter would be a good idea though. The HHO people show fitting a removable filter full of glass beads that can be cleaned. But this is a diy mod, I've not seen it in practice.
Maybe renaultbiler will be along shortly to offer the ecu service?

Thanks Brian. im starting to get the "limp mode" pop up abit more lately and its getting annoying. maybe time to remove and clean it. anyone live o near farnborough (hants) of any good honest renault specialists? would like to put it on the computer to see what faults it has.

You will find the wiggly line comes up on the dash only after something has gone wrong with the EGR system. Usually after the valve gets some dirt or carbon deposits in it and it fails to close properly or sticvks partially open - this would have the effect of the car running very poorly/slowly.

Once you cleaned the EGR valve and it was working properly you could effectively just disconnect it and it would stay fully closed and you wouldn't get any error messages on the dash, BUT the valve is there for a reason, always remember that.

As far as i understand and read if its not connected it can build up more heat in the engine. i could be wrong if so please correct me.

if true does anyone really know how much?

its there for a reason is it just for emissions or help maintain the life of the engine?
i say "just emissions" but the is worse out there causing more damage by a long way.

Yes, essentially you are right. The whole idea behind the recirulation of exhaust gas is actually to send it back through the turbo reducing emissions, but one side effect is that it aids turbo cooling so the engine would run hotter with it blanked off. How much damage, if any, it would do long term I have no idea, maybe others with more knowledge could answer this.

I know of one guy who's had the one on his espace disconnected for five years now and it seems to be OK

I cleaned my EGR valve for 150.000km ago and disconnected it and since then I have had no problems regarding this issue.
I have also disconnected the air mass meassure device.

My engine is a 2.2 DCi (130HP) optimized to 167HP and 389NM

Well i blanked it off with the plate (see link on first post) and my word what a difference. turbo kicks in lower down and runs alot smoother. very happy with the £4 i spent!!

Its 2mm thick. you just slide it in between the pipe and the housing then bolt it back up. hardly can tell its there. good luck.

great !  thanks yellow i will make one up and let you know the results also i will attach a pdf i found somewhere with steps on taking the damper housing apart to give it a thorough clean i have tried removing the EGR and scraping the inside of the housing but frankly you can only get a portion of the carbon out using that method which kinda defeats the purpose of having a sparkling clean EGR but the damper is still coked up. hope its of use to dci owners it has been translated from french so the language is quite quirky but the pics explain it all.
