On my car this only adjusts the dash and the clock, not those lights..

The originals were 24 volts.  I have been running 12 volt bulbs in my car for some time, as the 24 volt ones are hard to obtain.  I have not had any problems with them, although I find them a bit bright at night.
On your dashboard there is a small thumb wheel under the row of colured lamps. It adjusts the brightness. Are the lights still too bright after turning that?

The dashboard illumination dimmer does not affect the heater panel lights.  This is why they are 24v so they are already the correct brightness.

Thats good, I was sure it didn't. Well my dash is all back together now and if I may say, it all looks and works much better! All heater dials, lights etc all work, cables are not longer tied in knotts and with the brand new heater switch that I fitted i'd say this part of my car is sorted now.. time to move on to all the other 100's of things that i want to do..
