front strut bearings
August 21, 2008, 03:51:34 PM
Hi all,im still getting probs with steering pulling and have decided to replace the bearings at the top of the struts.i read somewhere in a previous post that these bearings were inexpensive if bought a from source other than main dealers so was just wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of who,s best to try for these parts.

                                Cheers Ian

Hi Ian, still havent got mine sorted yet either, been on hols and have got a faulty fuel guage to sort first but back to the bearings, i suggest that they will have to be stripped out then you can go to a local industrial bearing specialist who can size them up, thats what i plan to do when i eventually get round to it ! good luck Paul.

Last time I visited my regular Renault garage, they had done the strut bearings on another Espace (incidentially one which I used to own ;) ) just the day before. The mechanic - who is always ready for a chat - picked up the old ones from the garbage bin to show them to me. This car went in with steering problems, and when I saw (what used to be) the bearings, I had no problem understanding why!  :o

There wasn't a single ball left in the bearing! The holder was almost fully gone from rust. No wonder it had steering problems! :D

So my recommedation would be to forget about the bearing specialist - get a pair of new bearings from any good supplier you can find, and fit those instead. The time you will save will make plenty up for the additional cost ;)

These bearings are also used on Laguna, so they shouldn't be too expensive. In fact my garage had them in their local inventory as it's a common part to replace.
