Hi all,

I just want to share the news that I've decided to take the licence plates off my Murena and garage it in order to start the "big" restoration job it needs. In fact, it's not that bad. The engine is perfect, gearbox likewise, steering, brakes, electrical system... So we're looking at paint job, body repairs, corrosion protection... I'll take the engine out, however - the gear change  is sloppy and I want to replace the bush in the top of the gearbox to tighten it up a bit, and it has a small water leak under the cam chain cover. It has also lost a bit of oil when the filter went a little loose, so I bit of clearning will also be needed. Finally, the swing arms need corrosion protection, and that's only possible when they're off the car.

Here's the car in front of its garage.

Oh yes, my son Aksel is 16 now, and he has committed to help me... the goal is that the car is ready when he get a drivers license in 2 years :-)

So it will be a father-son-project :-)

Good luck with the job.
It's a lot of work, once you started one job calls for the other.
It's fun to do as a hobby.
If it's finished it will be nicked by your son I think. Shocked

Hi Anders.
That is big.
I have ended in much the same situation because of engine trouble. It seems like a good time to do a major overhaul. But I have a deadline of September 30th. because it has to pass the bi-annual MOT.
I too may have to take the license plates off if I can't meet the deadline.
Btw. Jan and I can probably help you fix the top bushing on your gearbox.
Just let us know.

I'm following your thread and keeping my fingers crossed for you, Jon!

That's a great offer, thanks! It's stuck very hard and it probably needs careful heating to avoid destroying the thread in the aluminum. But we're starting with stripping the removable body panels, doors, etc, and not doing the engine/gearbox until later Smiley

I use this with force after slight heating.

a friend made a few bushes and drilled them out to put them in place.
Don't make them to long, there must be place for the spring.

I have to drill it out again.
I used a balljoint rubber to protect it fron water coming in.

The fun of driving Murena's.
You need some spare boxes.

I would use a long wrench, then cooling the bushing with a CO2 extinguisher (or dry-ice) and hitting the end of the wrench with a hammer. Better than risk damaging the aluminium with heat.
Afterwards the bushing could be drilled out and an insert made that fit the shift rod better. Of course to get the shift rod out you have to take the box apart.

Nice Anders,
good luck - when your son "nicks" the car, then what will you be driving? another dream project?

Best,
Jesper
