Hi,

I have Murena 1.6 which is sitting because of broken gearbox since 2-3 years. I found topic on here, that the Murena use the same gearbox as Citroen CX. So I found CX 2.4i GTI stripped for parts in my country, and my idea is if I can use the gearbox from the CX GTI on my 1.6 Murena? Just need it to move the car around, doesn't care about the performance and the gear ratios.

Best Regards,
Mladen

Hi, the CX Gearbox is only suitable for the 2.2 Murena. which is a different engine configuration.
I hope someone on the Forum can give you some advice on the 1.6 Gearbox alternatives?

Not cool. I thought I can use the CX internals into my gearbox bell housing. Can't I?

What is defect on the gearbox?
The CX box you can use some parts for the 1.6
The primairy axle and bellhousing from a CX box is different.
Let me know, I have revived 4 boxes till now and found several problems in them.

The box is still on the car, and I'm not sure for the problem. There are no 1st and 2nd gear.

The good news are that I found Talbot 1510 for parts in my country. And probably this is the only 1510 in the country.

I'm going to collect the 1510 box from it next week and will keep you in touch.

THANK YOU EVERYONE!  Wink

Just a thought, have you checked the linkage?

Exactly,
Most of the time there is to much play and some rust on the levers in the system.

Hi,

I have Murena 1.6 which is sitting because of broken gearbox since 2-3 years.

Hello Mladen,

First question - you say the gearbox is broken, so what exactly is broken?  What happened to cause it?

The gearbox is basically the same as the CX but there are differences obviously.  The first is the casing and the clutch bell housing.  This is why I ask what is broken.  If it is the casing then you probably can't use it, but if it is some of the internals then maybe it could be useful, as Herman has pointed out.

Even within the CX range there are lots of different gear clusters and ratios anyway, so again it comes back to what exactly you need.

One point though, you say there is no first and second gear but are you positive it is not just the linkage?  It is more likely that the linkage is defective than something internal and expensive has failed.  You need to fully check the linkage externally before going to all the work of removing the complete transaxle, when it might simply be something you could fix externally.

I was not sure about the problem in the gearbox and today I took out it from the car.
The linkage and the hausing are okay, the problem is in the reverse gear shaft.

Probably I'll by CX gearbox and I'll use the shaft from it, because the man who was selling 1510 for parts decided to keep in shape.
I guess the 2.4 CX shaft will fit the 1.6 gearbox, won't it?

Don't think so, but You have to compare.
I'm not sure all gears are the same as Murena.
Possible that the backplate located below 5th gear and on the housing is thicker and 5th synchro is probably different.
Then you need to replace all above 4th gear (bearings, gears, backplate synchro).
1.6

2.2

Difference

What you can use if the gearbox from the CX is later  then 1980 is second gear and baulkrings 1-4.
All kind of little stuff like sliders and levers but compare them.
The Murena box had some updates during his short life and not everything can be exchanged.
Read the manual about all adjustments.
It's not a easy job but start with dismanteling the CX box and show us some pictures.

I have a topic about it on the Balgium forum.
It is in Dutch but has lot's of pictures you can look about rebuild.
Can come in handy.

Thanks for the explanations about the CX box! Good news now.

The guy with Talbot 1510 changed his mind and decided again to strip it for parts. So today I bought the 1510 gearbox which is truly the same as the Matra's one.

Good days for the Murena, thanks to all of you. Cool

THANKS.
